About Voria Labs
“There came a time in my life when there was a choice to keep going with what was familiar and safe—or take a chance on turning a dream into reality. If not now, when?”
Robert is a life-long tinkerer and maker of things. Over the past two decades he has had the honor of working at Apple, Nest Labs, and Google, and his contributions continue to run on millions of devices across the world.
Yet something was missing. Writing software just wasn't enough anymore. He wanted to make things from the ground up, start to finish—but also reconnect with the core of what got him into his career in the first place: the joy of watching other people interact with—and enjoy—the things that he makes.
In May of 2024, he left his successful software engineering career at Google to start something new: something where he could design and make innovative objects at the intersection of art, technology, and interactive design.
That endeavor is Voria Labs.
The first offering, Lumanoi, is a striking wall-mounted interactive light sculpture. Robert designed, obsessed over, and implemented every detail: woodworking, electronic circuit design, circuit board layout, software engineering, hand proximity detection, website and package design. It is the culmination of a career-worth of skill and effort—and this is just the beginning.
